Overview: Marketing and Communication Internship at a Coral Reef Restoration NGO in Bali, Indonesia

The organization is a Bali-based non-profit organization focused on restoring damaged coral reefs in Bali and the rest of Indonesia. To achieve this, they use the low-voltage electrolysis technology to promote faster growth and better health of coral reefs. The UN awarded organization in Pemuteran is a good example of how destroyed corals can be restored while achieving economic benefits for the local community at the same time. The project, launched in 2000, has now been replicated to 15 locations in Indonesia.

The organization is headquartered in North Bali and has an home-office in Batubulan. The home-office is located in a residential complex close to public facilities and tourist attractions. Pemuteran is located about 4 hours driving from the airport and is currently one of the emerging tourist destinations in Bali thanks to the restoration project that has boosted the economy and has also turned the poor and dry village from the 1990s into a real tourist destination. Nevertheless, there is no nightlife or night entertainment in this area.
